Annual Garage Sale - June 8 & 9, 2012

The annual church-wide garage sale is coming soon! The sale will be June 8 & 9.

You may begin bringing your donations on Sunday, June 3. This event raises money for Youth and Adult Missions and the Community Aid Fund...AND provides great bargains on some beautiful items. Volunteer opportunities will be announced soon.

“Reading of the Names” Worship Service -- May 27, 10:30 AM

On Sunday, May 27, the church will be observing a time of Reading of the Names. Reading of the Names is a solemn time in which fallen service members from Texas will be remembered and honored. A member of the congregation will hold the name of a fallen member and exit the sanctuary once their name is read. The Reading of the Names visibly brings to light the sacrifices of our service members. Due to the holiday weekend, worship services will only be held at 8:30 and 10:30. The Reading of the Names will be observed during the 10:30 service only. All services will be in the sanctuary. Children and Youth Sunday School classes will not be meeting on this day. Adult Sunday School Classes are optional. A church-wide picnic will be held after the 10:30 service.

New Supper Club Rotation to Start Soon

Our current rotation for Supper Club is winding down and it's time to start a new rotation. Please indicate on your connection card, located in your Sunday bulletin, if you are interested in starting a new Supper Club rotation during the summer or if you'd prefer to wait until Fall to do it again.

Chamber of Commerce Breakfast - May 23, 7:15 AM

The church will host the Chamber of Commerce Breakfast on Wednesday, May 23, beginning at 7:15 AM. The topic for the day will be the “Community Aid Fund” co-sponsored by Lake Cities UMC and the Lake Cities Ministerial Alliance. Dorothea Dickey, CAF’s coordinator, will be making the presentation. The CAF is a special fund designed to offer emergency assistance to needy citizens of the Lake Cities area (Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Corinth, Shady Shores). It is supported by a number of churches that look to the CAF as a central source of financial assistance. The fund is totally dependent on financial gifts. Once the fund is depleted then nothing is left to offer members of the community. Due to the limited financial scope of the CAF, money will not be available for mortgages or rent. Cash is never kept on the premises or given to individuals.

Senior Recognition - Sunday, May 20th

On Sunday May 20th, we will recognize our graduating high school Seniors during Worship, as well as hold a reception in their honor after the 11AM service in the Family Life Center. The Seniors will have displays set up with information about themselves, their accomplishments so far, and their upcoming ambitions. We hope that you will be sure to show them your support with your presence and kind words as they are set to begin a new chapter in life.

Courageous Study Group

The Courageous Sermon Series concludes with a 4-week study, beginning Sunday, May 20th and ending Sunday June 10th. If you are interested, please be sure to indicate your preferred meeting time on the Connection Cards provided in your Sunday bulletin. One response is all that is needed.

However, if you are not sure if you have replied, you may enter it again so we can ensure your enrollment.

UMW Bake Sale - May 13th, 2012

UMW will hold their Bake Sale on Sunday, May 13th, which is Mother’s Day.

Get Mom a special treat on her day. Of course, if you would like to request special baked goods; red velvet cake, blackberry or blueberry pie, Martha’s banana pudding, etc., just call Barbara Coy at 940-367-0845 (after 6 pm please) and let her know.

The proceeds from the UMW Bake Sale go to help support missions.

Children's Sunday 2012 is Upon Us!

Children's Sunday is May 13 and the 3rd thru 5th graders are "taking over" worship!

The service, "Called to Hope," will be lead by our 3rd - 5th graders.

Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7-8pm and childcare is provided. You do not need to have experience and it isn't necessary to read music.

General Conference is the largest gathering of United Methodists from throughout the world. This meeting will determine the direction of the 11 million member United Methodist Church for the next four years.

Coupons for Military Groceries

The Church continues to do a great job with helping our active duty military overseas with their grocery shopping. This month, the total value of coupons sent overseas was $15,966.53 - that makes our total over the last seven months $122,405.11.

Please keep in mind that coupons can only be used for six months past their expiration date, so please, no coupons prior to January 1, 2012. It would help if you could clip them, but if not, that's fine as well. Keep up the good work, LCUMC. Your efforts continue to be appreciated by our military families overseas.

Hospitality…What is it?

Hospitality is “the friendly reception and generous treatment of guestst”

What a blessing it is to sit or stand in the Fellowship Hall and talk with Church family while partaking of refreshments. It is also a great opportunity to get to know newcomers or those members of the “family” you don’t know very well.

Each Sunday Lakes Cities UMC provides a selection of pastries and breads along with coffee and cocoa to be enjoyed by all. Sometimes we have an abundance of goodies, but often we are in need of refreshments.

To supplement we are asking for volunteers in the Church family to bring food items for the hospitality table. It does not have to be “homemade” (although “homemade” is always welcome!!).

If you are interested, please fill out the sign-up sheet that will be placed on the hospitality table.
