United Methodist Women Chick Flick

Attention, Ladies! Join us for an evening of fun and fellowship at UMW’s monthly Chick Flick next Tuesday, February 15. We’ll meet at 5:45 at Chili’s for dinner and then off to enjoy a movie!

VBS Planning Meeting

Want to be part of all the fun and excitement of VBS? Come join in the planning process for Vacation Bible School 2011. This year, our theme is Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus was a Kid. We will be taking a look at all the exciting activities and crafts as well as discussing plans for fundraising. Everyone who is interested in helping with VBS is welcome. Childcare will be provided.

Season of Lent

Ash Wednesday

It is that time of year again, when we are thinking of the coming season of Lent. In keeping with the tradition of this congregation, we will be inviting congregation members to fast on Ash Wednesday, donating your grocery 'savings' to our food pantry. We will be serving our usual 'break the fast soup supper' after the Ash Wednesday service. If you are able to donate a Crockpot of soup, please call the office and let Suzie know.

Lenten Devotional

In addition, we will be putting together our annual Lenten devotional booklets, so we are in need of your help. Our theme this year is 'answered prayer' If you have experienced an answer to prayer in your life, and would like to have it included in our booklet, please write a paragraph or two about it, along with a scripture passage that fits. You can drop it by the office or put it in the collection plate on Sunday. You may also email it to Martha decaturrann@yahoo.com or Suzie secretary@lakecitiesumc.org.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD

Due to inclement weather, LCUMC is now responsible for Saturday, February 19th. Please note, we will be painting on the 19th, so be sure to dress accordingly. If you have not yet volunteered to work at Habitat, feel free to email Holly Witter @ hwitter@centurytel.net or call 469-682-9499 if you are available - we still need approximately 4 workers for the 19th!

Greg and Sandy Deaderick's house burned to the ground this week.

They are safe as are their animals, but they lost everything. They appreciate your support and all the offers of help. Until further notice, their immediate needs are for food and clothing. The church will be collecting gift cards (Walmart, Chick-fil-A, etc.) for a presentation to the family this Sunday.

You may deliver your cards to the church on Sunday or if you want to help but can not get the gift cards to the church by Sunday, February 6, then please just bring them by the church office anytime Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and the church will make sure they are delivered to the Deaderick family. If you have questions or need more information please contact the church office at (940) 321-6100.

Financial Peace University

• Feb. 13 -- Preview Night - Anyone interested can come see what FPU is about and sign up for the classes. Kits will be ordered after that night. I believe they will be $99 for the kit and you only need one kit per family.
• Feb. 27 -- 1st class (Each class will run from 6:30-8:00pm on Sunday nights.)

The last class will probably be May 29th or June 5th depending on what the class wants to do about holiday weekends and skipping a meeting.

*Childcare will be provided for the preview night and all classes.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD

Saturday, February 19, is the final work date at 927 Fannin St. Denton, TX to fulfill our obligation to help with the Habitat build. Please contact Holly Witter at hwitter@centurytel.net or 469-682-9499 if you want to work!

A huge THANK-YOU to everyone who has already gone and volunteered time or donated items for lunch! It has been a tremendous success!

Monday evening, Jan 24th, at 6:30 pm we will have refreshments provided by Peggy Shelton and Yvonne Warner. Never pass up free food! Sandy Payne will lead our program with the installation of officers. Please join us for fun and fellowship!

We will be having a training meeting for youth who help (or would like to help) with Sunday school, children's church and COGs on Sunday, January 23 from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. We will meet in the large children's classroom upstairs (room 204). This should be a fun meeting -- please bring a picture of yourself from elementary or preschool that Ms. Dorothea can keep.
