On Sunday, May 27, the church will be observing a time of Reading of the Names. Reading of the Names is a solemn time in which fallen service members from Texas will be remembered and honored. A member of the congregation will hold the name of a fallen member and exit the sanctuary once their name is read. The Reading of the Names visibly brings to light the sacrifices of our service members. Due to the holiday weekend, worship services will only be held at 8:30 and 10:30. The Reading of the Names will be observed during the 10:30 service only. All services will be in the sanctuary. Children and Youth Sunday School classes will not be meeting on this day. Adult Sunday School Classes are optional. A church-wide picnic will be held after the 10:30 service.

Lewis is putting a handbell ensemble together for an upcoming worship service. Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm beginning this week (April 25). This will be a short-term commitment, so you aren't signing the rest of your Wednesday nights away.

Thursday, April 5, 7:00 PM, Maundy Thursday

This year’s Maundy Thursday service will feature sacred readings, contemporary music, powerful symbols and Holy Communion. The service promises to be one of deep meaning and solemn reflection as Christians everywhere prepare for the Passion of Christ. Service will be held in the sanctuary.

Friday, April 6, 7:00 PM, Good Friday Service

This service will reflect on the Passion of Christ through songs and readings. As the service comes to a conclusion, participants will leave in the shadows and quiet of the evening hours. Service will be held in the sanctuary.

Sunday, April 8, 6:30 AM, Easter Sunrise Service

Front parking area; As the service develops, the rising of the sun will bring to light the rising of our Lord and Savior. After the service, the United Methodist Men will be serving a pancake breakfast. Service will be held in the front parking area.

Sunday, April 8, 8:30/9:45/11:00 AM, Easter Services

The church will be offering three services on Easter to celebrate the risen Savior! Services will be held in the sanctuary.

On Sunday, December 18, 2011 Lake Cities United Methodist Church is presenting A Christmas Musical "Heaven is Shining Today: A Musical Celebration of Christmas" at the 8:30 am and 11:00 am Worship Services.

Girl Scout Troop 3876 put together a terrific bulletin board for the Lake Cities Food Pantry to encourage people to donate much needed protein items to the Food Pantry. Make sure to check out the display outside the church office and take a "grocery bag" as a reminder for item(s) you plan to donate. Requested items include canned chicken, tuna, spam, chili and peanut butter.

Day of Remembrance

The church will hold a Day of Remembrance on Sunday, September 11, in remembrance of the events that took place on September 11, 2001.  The congregation will be asked to share their stories and memories from that day on 9/11.  Personal testimonies will be the sermon for each of the three services.  Volunteer participants will be asked to address three questions:

1.    What do you remember of 9/11?
2.    How did that event effect you?
3.    How did the faith strengthen you?

Invite your friends & neighbors to this meaningful time of healing, prayer and worship.  Come and share a word about your experience of 9/11 or come a hear the stories of others about one of the most historical events in our nations’ history.  Service times are 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00.

Holy Week and Easter Sunday at Lake Cities United Methodist Church

Sunday April 17, Palm Sunday; Along with the children’s processional of palms, the service will contain readings and special music that highlight the celebration of the passion of Jesus, beginning with his entrance into Jerusalem. The choir will be performing the cantata, “The Weeping Tree.”

Thursday, April 21, 7:00 pm, Maundy Thursday, Family Life Center; We will have a Seder Foot-washing service commemorating this special illustration of servant ministry given to the disciples by Jesus at the Passover meal. Come and enjoy the retelling of this story, and participate in a symbolic foot washing. The service will be followed by our traditional stew and matza supper. All are invited to this special experience, so bring the whole family.
